Effective October 1st 2014, Captain Ken Rowling became Retired Captain Ken Rowling. After 34 years of selfless service to Stayton Fire District and the community we serve, Captain Rowling has decided to take down his turnouts, a right he has more than earned.

We often talk about quality not quantity but with Ken you get both, and plenty of it. Quantity; thirty-four years of volunteering in one of the most demanding professions there is. That in itself is simply amazing and a lifetime achievement very few of us will ever attain. But that is just the quantity. You cannot fully realize who Ken is until you understand the quality-the level of complete, unselfish commitment he made every single day of those thirty-four years. With Ken it’s not about just giving, it’s about giving your all and he lives that in everything he does. Ken’s devotion and commitment to his family and church runs even deeper than that of the fire district. Sometimes you have to wonder just how he did it all. But the thing to admire most about Ken is that he has given so much for so long and has never once expected or wanted anything in return. The thing that makes me the proudest to be a part of the volunteer fire service is people like him; ordinary people doing extraordinary things, simply because it’s the right thing.

Ken, thank you for your years of service to the Fire District and for all that you have done for us. It has been our pleasure and honor to have you as part of the District, you made us better. You truly set the standard we all should strive for. We know you are still going to be around and hope that you visit often, you will be missed.
