New 'Forest Threats' report released

A new OFRI special report highlights the important role of scientific forest management in helping protect Oregon's forests from multiple threats, including fires, insects and diseases.

The 16-page Forest Threats report also explores how human activity has affected forests, such as the negative impacts of invasive species and climate change, as well as ways all Oregonians can help care for our forests.

"Each threat can have a devastating effect on the landscape, offsetting the careful balance required for a forest to stay healthy and resilient," says OFRI Executive Director Paul Barnum. "Forest Threats outlines how active management combats these threats to sustain Oregon's forests for future generations."

Copies of Forest Threats will be mailed out this month to state lawmakers, policy leaders, industry partners and Oregon media. Print and electronic versions of the report are also available to order or download through OFRI's website, OregonForests.org

Along with the report, additional information about forest threats is available online at OregonForests.org/ForestThreats. This includes a series of videos on how fire, insects, invasive species, disease and storms can harm forests and the management techniques used to lessen those impacts.
